The explosion of AI note-taking tools in financial advice has been remarkable — over 51 at last count. But here's the uncomfortable truth: transcribing a meeting is the easy bit. The hard part is what happens next. Getting facts into your CRM, generating the suitability report, updating compliance records, drafting the client letter. That requires context — the full client record, your compliance framework, previous meetings, existing documents. A standalone note-taker has none of this. It transcribes, summarises, and hands you back a wall of text that you still need to manually process. This is what we call the Tax of Abstraction. Every time you move data between disconnected systems, you pay a tax — in time, in accuracy, in cognitive load. Note-takers don't eliminate this tax. They just move it.
